What is The Capacity of Ladle Furnace?

Ladle furnace is an off-furnace refining equipment for refining molten steel under vacuum or normal pressure. It is mainly used to process molten steel from primary refining furnaces (such as electric arc furnaces, open hearth furnaces or converters) to meet the needs of subsequent processes by heating, refining and adjusting the temperature of molten steel.

Ladle refining furnace is a key link in steel production. It can improve the quality and purity of molten steel and provide process buffer for subsequent processes such as continuous casting. LF refining furnaces usually have arc heating function, which can heat and adjust the composition of molten steel in the ladle.

Capacity of Ladle Furnace

The capacity of LF refining furnace ranges widely, depending on the specific type and manufacturer. Common capacity ranges from a few tons, 20 tons to 300 tons. Specifically, there are refining furnaces with different capacities such as 20 tons, 50 tons, 100 tons, and 150 tons to choose and customize.

• Small ladle furnace: usually used for small batch production or production of special steel grades, the capacity may be between 20 tons and 50 tons.

• Medium-sized ladle furnace: It is a more common capacity, which can cover the range of 50 tons to 150 tons.

• Large ladle furnace: It is mainly used for the production of large steel mills, and the capacity can reach more than 200 tons, or even 300 tons.

The furnace capacity ratio of the ladle refining furnace will also affect the capacity, which is between 0.65t/m³ and 0.90t/m³. The ladle and the furnace are used in conjunction, and usually one furnace corresponds to one ladle for continuous casting.

In addition to capacity, other technical parameters of LRF, such as transformer capacity, electrode diameter, heating rate, etc., will also be adjusted according to different capacities and production needs.

In actual production, the capacity of commonly used ladle furnace is mostly concentrated in 80 to 150 tons, which is suitable for the needs of large-scale steel production enterprises.
