To ensure the quality of batching in electric arc furnace smelting, the following issues should be paid attention to:
(1) Strengthen the management of incoming materials, do a good job of spectral identification, and ensure that the composition of the charge is basically accurate.
(2) Accurately grasp the recovery rate of the charge according to the quality of the incoming materials.
(3) Accurate weighing must be performed when batching.
The electric arc furnace smelting methods include return oxygen blowing method, charging method and oxidation method. Different smelting methods have different requirements when charging.
The oxidation method has the requirements of dephosphorization, degassing and de-inclusion, so ordinary scrap steel should be used as much as possible; the return method must use high-quality returned scrap steel.
The alloy elements recovered from the returned steel, especially the recovered precious alloy elements, must be fully and effectively utilized, which has great economic significance.
Usually, all alloy scrap steel containing elements such as chromium, nickel, tungsten, and molybdenum should be used as returned materials.
Charges must be charged quickly. After tapping, the furnace heats up rapidly, dropping from over 1500°C to below 800°C in just a few minutes. Therefore, all necessary preparations should be made before charging to ensure rapid charging and powering up.
If arcing is difficult after powering up, consider whether there are any non-conductive materials, such as slag or other non-metallic materials, lying flat under the electrodes. In this case, lift the electrodes and place conductive materials, such as pig iron, coke, or broken electrodes, underneath.
To prevent non-conductivity, ensure that the slag is placed flat under the charge (between the small and large pieces) during charging.
