In the modern steelmaking process, the electric arc furnace, as the core equipment of short-process steelmaking, plays a key role in production efficiency, energy consumption, and environmental protection. As an important component of the electric furnace, the electric arc furnace furnace roof not only provides high-temperature sealing and heat protection, but also directly affects furnace thermal efficiency, electrode consumption, and equipment service life.
Recently, Sanrui Electric Furnace successfully completed the design, manufacturing, and delivery of a 25t electric arc furnaces furnace cover project, providing customers with a high-performance and durable EAF water-cooled furnace roof solution, helping customers further improve production stability and reduce operating costs.
The steelmaking electric furnace generates an electric arc between the electrodes and the charge materials, converting electrical energy into heat energy to achieve rapid melting of raw materials such as scrap steel and ferroalloys. During this process, the furnace lid is continuously exposed to:
High-temperature electric arc environments above 3000℃;
Frequent thermal shocks;
Dust and flue gas corrosion inside the furnace;
Mechanical impacts caused by electrode lifting and lowering.
Therefore, a high-quality EAF furnace cover needs to have:
Excellent high-temperature resistance;
Stable structural strength;
Good sealing performance;
Efficient water-cooling capability;
Long service life.
The rational design of the EAF roof directly affects the energy utilization efficiency and continuous production capacity of the electric arc furnace.
The customer of this project is an enterprise specializing in steel and alloy production. In order to meet increasing production requirements, the customer aimed to upgrade the existing top structure of the EAF electric furnace, improve equipment operation stability, and reduce downtime caused by roof damage.
Based on the customer's on-site steelmaking electric furnace parameters and production process requirements, we designed and manufactured a dedicated 25t electric arc furnaces furnace lid system.

According to the capacity, production process, and operating environment of steelmaking electric furnaces, EAF furnace roofs are mainly divided into the following types:
This is currently the most widely used type of roof for medium and large electric arc furnaces.
Adopts a steel water-cooled structure;
Internal circulating cooling water channels are installed;
Effectively reduces the working temperature of the roof;
Extends the service life of the roof.
The 25t electric arc furnaces project in this case adopted a water-cooled roof design. Compared with traditional refractory roofs, water-cooled roofs have better thermal shock resistance and are suitable for continuous production environments.
Suitable for:
Large electric arc furnaces with high-intensity continuous production under high-temperature smelting environments.
The entire roof body adopts a water-cooled structure, which can minimize thermal load to the greatest extent.
Combines:
Water-cooled structure + refractory protection layer + special insulation design.
Suitable for production enterprises that need to balance cost and performance.
To ensure long-term stable operation of the equipment, we carried out targeted optimization according to the customer's site conditions from the design stage.
The engineering team designed the roof structure according to:
Electric arc furnace dimensions;
Electrode arrangement;
Furnace operating parameters;
Smelting environment.
The key optimization areas included overall roof rigidity, electrode hole positioning accuracy, water cooling pipeline layout, and flue gas discharge area design, ensuring precisse matching between the EAF furnace roofs and the original equipments after installation.
Since the water-cooled furnace roof is continuously exposed to high temperatures, the cooling system is the core component.
The Sanrui Electric Furnace project adopted an efficient water circulation design:
Reasonable arrangement of cooling water pipes;
Ensuring complete coverage of cooling areas;
Reducing the risk of local overheating;
Improving the service life of the roof.
After the electric arc furnace roof manufacturing was completed, we carried out:
Dimension inspection + Welding quality inspection + Hydraulic pressure testing + Cooling system inspection + Overall structural confirmation.
This ensured that the equipment met the customer's installation and operation requirements.
After installation and operation, this 25t electric arc furnace furnace roof brought significant improvements to the customer's production.
The optimized EAF furnace cover structure can better withstand high-temperature environments and reduce:
Roof deformation, cooling abnormalities, and unplanned downtime.
This further helps customers maintain a stable production rhythm.
The efficient water-cooling system reduces the long-term thermal impact on the roof and extends equipment maintenance intervals.
Customers no longer need to frequently replace roof components, reducing equipment maintenance costs.
The excellent sealing performance of the roof reduces heat loss and enables the electric arc furnace to maintain a more stable thermal environment. The benefits include:
Reducing heat energy waste;
Improving melting efficiency;
Optimizing production costs.
This 25t electric arc furnaces water-cooled furnace roof is not only suitable for ordinary steel production but can also be applied in:
Alloy steel production;
Stainless steel smelting;
Special alloy melting and other fields.
Meeting the customer's future production expansion requirements.
Although the EAF furnace roof is only one component of the electric arc furnace system, its performance directly affects the entire production process.
Through this 25t electric arc furnaces water-cooled furnace roof project, Sanrui Electric Furnace provided customers with not only a piece of equipment but also a solution optimized according to actual production requirements.
From design, manufacturing to delivery, we always focus on:
Equipment reliability, service life, production efficiency, and long-term customer benefits.
In the future, we will continue to provide high-quality electric arc furnace equipment and roof system solutions for global steel, alloy, and metallurgical enterprises.
