An ultra high power electric arc furnace is a steelmaking device, particularly suitable for recycling scrap steel. EAF generates an electric arc in the furnace charge through electrodes, using resistance heating to melt materials such as molten iron, scrap steel, and slag, and to refine alloys.
The 60-ton UHP EAF is an extremely efficient electric furnaces steelmaking device. Its significant feature is that the energy input per unit time is 2 to 3 times higher than that of ordinary electric arc furnaces. It can be used not only for scrap steel melting but also for refining alloy steels and special steels.
This high-efficiency energy input significantly shortens melting time, improves production efficiency, and makes the steelmaking process faster and more efficient.
The thermal efficiency of the ultra-high power EAF is also significantly improved, further reducing power consumption and achieving higher energy utilization efficiency.
This not only helps reduce production costs but also reduces energy consumption, meeting the requirements of sustainable development.
Furthermore, the UHP electric arc furnaces adopts a high-current, short-arc design, resulting in more concentrated heat and a more stable arc.
This design reduces the impact on the power grid, improves the stability of the electric arc and the controllability of the melting process in the furnace, ensuring the stability of the production process and product quality.
To achieve the efficient operation of the ultra high power electric arc furnace, a series of advanced equipment and technologies are also required. For example, using a large-capacity transformer allows for flexible voltage changes under load to meet different production needs.
The extensive use of water-cooled furnace walls and covers on the furnace body helps improve the cooling efficiency of the furnace body, protects the furnace structure, and extends its service life. Oxygen-carbon lances are used for fluxing, further improving melting efficiency and reducing energy waste.
Computer control enables the automation and intelligentization of the production process, ensuring the precision and stability of the production process, and improving overall production efficiency and product quality.
The working principle of UHP electric arc furnaces mainly based on the heating effect of electric arc discharge:
Arc Generation: A high-voltage current between electrodes forms an electric arc, generating high temperatures (up to 3000°C or higher).
Melting Process: The heat from the electric arc rapidly melts the scrap steel in the furnace, forming liquid metal.
Chemical Reaction: The temperature and composition within the furnace can be controlled, enabling the refining of different steel alloys and adjusting the chemical composition to meet product requirements.
Tapping & Forming: The molten steel is discharged through the tap hole and can then be cast or subjected to other subsequent processing.
Steelmaking: Primarily used for recycling scrap steel and smelting ordinary carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel.
Metallurgical Industry: Also used in the production of alloys of nickel, chromium, manganese, and other metals.
Construction & Manufacturing: The produced steel is widely used in construction, automotive, machinery manufacturing, and other industries.
Power Requirements: The power consumption of a 60 ton UHP electric arc furnaces depends on the furnace's design and operating conditions. Generally, the power consumption per ton of steel is between 350-900 kWh.
Practical Application: For example, if each EAF melting cycle is 70 minutes and consumes 600 kWh/ton, then the power consumption for melting 60 tons of steel each time is approximately 36,000 kWh.
The 60-ton ultra high power electric arc furnace features high efficiency, flexibility, and environmental friendliness, and is widely used in the metallurgical industry, especially in scrap steel recycling and refining. Its principle is based on electric arc heating, which can quickly and efficiently melt metal to meet the steel demands of modern manufacturing. Power consumption varies depending on specific operating conditions, but is generally within a reasonable range.
