VD vacuum refining furnace primarily used to vacuum degas molten steel, removing harmful gases, oxygen, and impurities from the steel, thereby improving its purity and quality.
VD refining furnaces play a vital role in the metallurgical industry, producing high-purity, low-impurity, high-quality steel. VOD vacuum refining furnace are similar to VD furnace, but with added features such as oxygen blowing and decarburization, enabling the production of stainless steel and ultra-low carbon alloy steel.
The VD refining furnaces primary function is to refine molten steel under a high vacuum environment, achieving vacuum degassing, deoxidation, and desulfurization, as well as homogenizing its composition and temperature. This significantly improves the steel's purity, toughness, and mechanical properties, meeting the production requirements of modern high-end steel grades (such as specialty steel, stainless steel, and bearing steel).
The vacuum facilitates the removal of harmful gases from the molten steel and removes impurities through carbon-oxygen reactions and alkaline slag reactions.
Under vacuum conditions, the partial pressure of harmful gases such as hydrogen and nitrogen in the molten steel is reduced, prompting them to escape from the steel, significantly reducing the gas content in the steel and improving its toughness and ductility.
Oxygen is removed from the molten steel through a carbon-oxygen reaction (where carbon in the steel reacts with oxygen to produce carbon monoxide gas, which escapes) or through a reaction between the alkaline top slag and the molten steel.
Sulfur is removed through bottom-blown argon agitation and the thorough reaction between the alkaline slag and the molten steel.
Bottom-blown argon agitates the molten steel, ensuring a uniform composition and temperature distribution, facilitating subsequent alloy adjustment and pouring.
Alloys can be added through the wire feeder under vacuum to precisely fine-tune the chemical composition of the molten steel.
Inclusions in the molten steel are promoted to float, reducing their content and further improving the cleanliness of the molten steel.
