Arc furnace is a device that uses the high temperature and intense heat of the arc to heat and melt metal. The working principle of arc furnace is to convert electrical energy into heat energy by generating an arc to melt solid materials into liquid.
The arc furnace has two electrodes built in. The electric energy leads the current between the two electrodes to form an arc. When the gas discharge forms an arc, the energy is very concentrated. The temperature of the arc zone is above 3000℃, and the metal material is placed in the arc for heating and melting.
1. Guide the arc: The arc furnace guides the electric energy into the arc chamber through the electrode to generate an arc. The arc is a discharge phenomenon formed by the breakdown state between the electrodes when the current passes through the gas or air. Its temperature can reach thousands of degrees Celsius.
2. Heating metal: The electric arc furnace places the metal material that needs to be heated and melted in the center of the arc, and quickly heats the metal material to above the melting point through the high temperature and heat energy of the arc. In this process, the outer layer of the metal material will melt rapidly and transform into a liquid state.
3. Melting metal: The high temperature environment of the electric arc furnace causes the metal material to melt and form a certain molten pool. The metal in the molten pool is constantly mixed and stirred to ensure the uniformity and stability of the metal composition in the molten pool.
4. Adjusting temperature: The electric arc furnace adjusts the heating temperature of the metal by changing the size of the arc and the working conditions of the arc. By controlling the parameters such as the current, voltage and frequency of the arc, the heating effect and temperature of the metal can be precisely controlled.
5. Slag removal and collection of smelting products: In the process of electric furnace smelting, some impurities and non-metallic substances, called slag, are inevitably produced. The electric arc furnace removes and collects the slag from the molten pool by regularly performing slag removal operations during the smelting process. The smelted metal liquid can be collected by spraying or pouring.
Through the above steps, the electric arc furnace can efficiently and high-temperature heat and melt various metal materials to meet specific composition and quality requirements. Electric arc furnaces are widely used in metallurgy, metal processing and scrap metal recycling.
