Raw material preparation
Select raw materials: The main raw material for 3 ton electric arc furnace steelmaking is scrap steel, which may come from scrap auto parts, scrap steel materials, etc. In addition, according to smelting needs, some auxiliary materials such as alloy elements and deoxidizers may also need to be prepared.
Pretreatment: Before entering the electric arc furnace, the scrap steel raw materials need to be cleaned to remove rust, oil and other impurities to ensure the quality of the steel.
Charging
Cleaning the furnace: Before charging, the furnace of the EAF needs to be cleaned to remove residues and impurities.
Charge loading: The cleaned and pre-treated scrap steel is loaded into the electric arc furnaces in a certain proportion and order. When charging, it is necessary to pay attention to maintaining a good stacking density to facilitate the smooth transfer of arc and gas.
Heating & melting
Preheating: After ignition, the arc is led into the furnace to start preheating. Preheating is to increase the temperature in the furnace and accelerate the melting of the raw materials.
Heating & melting: Electric energy is generated through power supply equipment, which is converted into heat energy to quickly heat the charge to a molten state. Under normal circumstances, the heating temperature of the electric arc furnace can reach thousands of degrees Celsius, which is enough to completely melt the charge.
Smelting reaction
Redox reaction: At high temperatures, iron and other metal elements in the raw materials begin to undergo redox reactions. These reactions include oxidation, reduction, etc. The specific type and degree of the reaction depends on the composition of the raw materials and the required steel properties.
Slag making: Add appropriate amount of limestone, fluorite and other slag making materials to make the slag contain enough redox agent and desulfurizer to promote the smelting reaction. Slag plays the role of separating metal and non-metal, purifying metal and protecting furnace lining in the process.
Refining
Adjusting composition: According to the smelting requirements, add appropriate amount of alloy elements to the direct reduction electric arc furnace to adjust the composition and performance of the steel. The added alloy elements can be alloy blocks or alloy powders, which are melted by the high temperature of the arc furnace and fully mixed with the charge.
Deoxidation: During the smelting process, deoxidizers (such as silicon, manganese, etc.) need to be added to remove oxygen from the molten steel to improve the quality and performance of the molten steel.
Steel tapping
Steel tapping operation: After reaching the required steel tapping composition and temperature, the molten steel is poured out through operations such as furnace tilting and steel pouring to form continuous casting billets or casting billets.
Subsequent processing: According to needs, the manufactured steel is subjected to subsequent processing such as cutting, grinding, heat treatment, etc. to meet the needs of different uses.
